Your iPhone is constantly low on disk space and you do not really know what to do about it? Does it feel like it is losing space even though you are not installing new apps or media on the phone?
One of the reasons why this may be happening are temporary files that accumulate over time. Temporary files are for instance created by some of the apps that you run on the phone.
Especially iPhone owners with 16 Gigabyte of storage space may sooner or later notice that their phone is running out of space. 16 Gigabytes may seem like a lot, but if you are moving part of your media collection to the phone, you likely fill up the space rather quickly.
And while you could use Apple's cloud service to stream your media collection instead, it is not something that all iPhone users do as it is a paid service and may also increase the monthly bill if bandwidth is not included in the mobile phone plan.
Enter PhoneClean, a free program for the Windows operating system that acts a bit like the popular CCleaner, only that it attempts to clean temporary files and data on the iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch instead of the computer's hard drive. The software is compatible with all recent versions of the Windows operating system from Windows XP to the very latest version. As far as support for Apple devices goes, it is supporting all current iPhone models from the first generation iPhone all the way down to the iPhone 4s, all iPad devices and all iPod touch devices.
Here is how it works:
- Start the program and connect your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch to your computer
- The program will recognize the connected device automatically, and display information about the overall drive capacity, as well as the free and used space
- You can click on the start scan button right away, or optionally check a box to keep offline files on the phone. Some apps save data to the phone for offline use. If you do not check the box, those files will get included in the clean up process
- The program scans the drive of the connected device which may take some time. Once done, you receive information about the app data and media that was found that can be cleaned. You have the option to look at the results in detail and either get the program to clean both media and application data, only one type of data, or none at all.
Depending on how you have used the Apple device, you may be able to clean Gigabytes of storage.
PhoneClean is an easy to use free program that you can use to free up space on your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch.
